Writer/Director Francesco Puppini was born and raised in Milan.

A graduate from the Northern Film School, he was appointed as a digital creative on the talent programme for the online relaunch of BBC Three.

His short film Some Body was nominated for the Audience Award at Leeds International Film Festival and won the Best Student Award at Screen.Dance in Scotland.

Virginia, a short drama about a difficult relationship between mother and son, won the BFI Future Film Lab Award, the ARRI Best Cinematography Award, the Myllennium Award and the NFFTY Special Achievement Award for Best Acting alongside other nominations, such as Best Director and Best International Short. The short screened internationally around film festivals.

Francesco was then selected for a specialist workshop run by director Cristian Mungiu and was part of New Arrivals: Go Short Campus in Nijmegen, where he started developing his new short film project titled Tutti Uccidono for which he was later awarded the top prize at ShorTS Pitching Training 2020, also pitched at Lovers Goes Industry 2022. He signs a contract with the production company dispàrte that commits to producing the short film.

Crossing boundaries between factual and fiction, Francesco approached video art for theatre at LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura. His work screened at La Biennale di Venezia 2020.

In 2021 he participated in the writing programme Luminanza - Reattore per la drammaturgia contemporanea svizzera di lingua italiana and met several authors from the Swiss and Italian panorama and wrote his first dramaturgy titled Evocazione. The text was read at Studio Foce in Lugano during FIT - Festival Internazionale del Teatro e della Scena Contemporanea and at the finissage of the exhibition on A.R. Penck at the Museo d’Arte di Mendrisio.

In 2022 he participated in the Cenacolo del Monte Verità during the festival Eventi Letterari in Ascona (Locarno) where he read his screenplay Two Strangers under the mentorship of writer Matteo Terzaghi.

In 2023 he contributed to a live writing performance at La Straordinaria - Tour Vagabonde in Lugano and at Territori Festival in Bellinzona.

In the same year, he was selected for the film directing workshop conducted by Marco Bellocchio and he worked with actors Fausto Russo Alesi and Pia Lanciotti.

In 2024, he was chosen to participate in a workshop led by Tim Crouch at La Biennale College Teatro.

Afterwards, his short film Tutti Uccidono premiered at Rome Independent Film Festival. The short film was also selected for others festivals, such as longtake Film Festival in Milan.

Regista e sceneggiatore, Francesco Puppini è nato e cresciuto a Milano.

Laureato alla Northern Film School, è stato incaricato come creativo digitale per il programma di rilancio online dell’emittente televisiva BBC Three.

Il suo cortometraggio Some Body è stato nominato per il premio del pubblico al Leeds International Film Festival e ha vinto il Miglior Premio Studentesco allo Screen.dance festival in Scozia.

Virginia, un corto su un difficile rapporto tra madre e figlio, ha vinto il BFI Future Film Lab Award, l’ARRI Best Cinematography Award, il Myllennium Award e il NFFTY Special Achievement Award for Best Acting insieme ad altre nominations, tra cui quelle di Miglior Regista e Miglior Corto Internazionale.

Francesco è stato poi selezionato per un workshop internazionale tenuto dal regista Cristian Mungiu ed ha preso parte al New Arrivals: Go Short Campus, dove ha cominciato a sviluppare un nuovo progetto cinematografico di cortometraggio dal titolo Tutti Uccidono per cui è stato premiato al ShorTS Pitching Training 2020 e presentato al Lovers Goes Industry 2022. Con questa sceneggiatura firma un contratto con la casa di produzione dispàrte che si impegna a produrre il cortometraggio.

Scavalcando barriere tra realtà e finzione, Francesco ha proseguito la sua attività di filmmaker per il teatro presso il LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura. Il suo lavoro è stato proiettato alla Biennale di Venezia 2020.

Nel 2021 partecipa al bando di scrittura Luminanza - Reattore per la drammaturgia contemporanea svizzera di lingua italiana in cui incontra diversi autori del panorama svizzero e italiano e scrive il suo primo testo teatrale dal titolo Evocazione. Il testo è stato letto allo Studio Foce di Lugano durante il FIT - Festival Internazionale del Teatro e della Scena Contemporanea e al finissage della mostra di A. R. Penck al Museo d’arte di Mendrisio.

Nel 2022 partecipa al Cenacolo del Monte Verità durante il festival Eventi Letterari ad Ascona (Locarno) dove legge la sua sceneggiatura Two Strangers sotto il mentorato dell’autore Matteo Terzaghi.

Nel 2023 partecipa a una performance di scrittura dal vivo presso la La Straordinaria - Tour Vagabonde di Lugano e al Territori Festival di Bellinzona. Successivamente viene selezionato per partecipare al corso di alta specializzazione in regia cinematografica condotto da Marco Bellocchio e lavora con gli attori Fausto Russo Alesi e Pia Lanciotti.

Nel 2024 è selezionato per partecipare a un workshop diretto da Tim Crouch alla Biennale College Teatro.

Dopodichè, il suo cortometraggio Tutti Uccidono ha avuto la sua prèmiere al Rome Independent Film Festival. Il corto è stato anche selezionato presso altri festival, tra cui il longtake Film Festival di Milano.
